NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang: Artificial Intelligence to Generate Employment Rather Than Eliminate Jobs

During a recent discussion hosted by the Milken Institute, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that artificial intelligence will create rather than destroy employment opportunities. He believes AI presents significant opportunities for the reindustrialization of the United States and that the AI industry is fostering new types of industrial plants that require labor.

Huang dismissed what he termed "science fiction stories" that cause people to avoid artificial intelligence out of fear. He expressed his primary concern that exaggerated fears might prevent the public from engaging with the technology. He also noted that automating a specific task within a job does not eliminate the entire position, as the broader purpose of a job is distinct from any single task.

Despite Huang's optimism, the conversation acknowledged persistent economic anxieties stemming from the rapid development of AI. The moderator raised the question of whether this pace could potentially cause greater social disruption and inequality compared to previous technological shifts. Some critics have accused the AI industry of promoting doomsday narratives as a marketing strategy to generate hype for products that may not possess the capabilities such warnings imply.

Looking ahead, several prominent financial and academic institutions predict that up to 15% of jobs in the United States could disappear due to AI within the coming years, although the long-term economic impact remains uncertain.
