MIIT Summons Li Auto and Dongfeng Nissan Over Black PR Controversy

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has taken note of the online dispute between Li Auto and Dongfeng Nissan and is treating the matter with high priority. On April 11, MIIT summoned representatives from both companies for discussions. A final conclusion from the investigation has not yet been reached.

On April 8, Dongfeng Nissan launched its NX8 model. Three days later, on April 11, Li Auto CEO Li Xiang posted multiple messages on his social media account, accusing a "certain Japanese brand" of hiring a large number of promotional accounts to maliciously disparage Li Auto's products. He also alleged the use of blank or fake accounts—so-called "black PR" or "water army" tactics—to spread false information and overwhelm the comment sections of Li Auto's vehicle pages. Although Li did not explicitly name the brand, accompanying images clearly pointed to Dongfeng Nissan's NX8, and related comparative posts were heavily concentrated on platforms such as Xiaohongshu. Li Xiang stated that these actions have severely disrupted the company’s normal operations.

Following these allegations, Li Auto's legal department issued a statement indicating that evidence collection has been completed and that the company will pursue legal action through reporting to authorities, filing complaints, and initiating lawsuits.

In response, Wang Qian, General Manager of Dongfeng Nissan's new energy brand, stated: "We abide by industry norms, advocate for healthy competition, and respect every peer, including Li Auto."
