US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump administration will unveil “substantial announcements” in the coming days regarding imports of coffee, bananas, and other foods not produced domestically.
In an interview on Fox News Wednesday morning, Bessent explained that the measures aim to provide short-term relief on consumer prices. He emphasized that President Donald Trump remains focused on increasing inflation-adjusted wages as a key strategy to ease financial pressures on households.
“You’re going to see some substantial announcements over the next couple of days in terms of things we don’t grow here in the United States — coffee being one of them, bananas, other fruits, things like that,” Bessent said.
