Herder Bai Zhanhu was preparing to water his livestock. He opened a remote-controlled smart watering device on his phone. By tapping the screen, he could set flexible watering times, precisely adjust water flow, and view real-time usage data. "Previously, we relied on manual labor for watering cattle and camels. We had to go to the well at scheduled times, draw water repeatedly, and pour it into troughs. Now, with smart watering equipment, I can control everything from home on my phone without having to stay on site. It saves time and effort," Bai Zhanhu said.
The widespread adoption of smart watering devices in various pastoral gachas ensures round-the-clock access to healthy water for livestock, achieving refined and intelligent management of animal hydration. To overcome the bottlenecks of traditional livestock farming, which relies on manual labor, extensive management, and high effort with low efficiency, the demonstration zone has focused on industrial development in recent years. It has aligned with the core needs of the masses, pushing forward the construction of a smart pastoral system. By increasing the promotion of intelligent breeding equipment and upgrading traditional animal husbandry with technological innovation, the zone optimizes breeding management models, effectively reduces labor costs, steadily improves comprehensive benefits, and transforms the local livestock industry from traditional extensive farming to intelligent, precise, and standardized practices. This injects technological momentum into the high-quality development of modern animal husbandry.
In addition to smart watering devices, the demonstration zone has also fully promoted an intelligent livestock positioning system tailored to the region's vast grasslands and scattered animals. This precisely addresses the pain points of managing free-range livestock and locating lost animals. Previously, herders had to patrol grazing areas and provide full-time care to monitor and retrieve wandering cattle, sheep, or camels. This consumed significant time and energy, resulting in high management costs and low efficiency. After installing smart locators, livestock management has been comprehensively upgraded. Herders can now use their phones to access real-time location data and activity trajectories of their animals, achieving precise control over livestock status around the clock. This has completely replaced the traditional management model of "chasing animals and circling the grasslands." "Without the smart locator, the livestock wandered everywhere, and finding them took half a day. Now, I can stay home, open my phone, see their positions, find them precisely, and bring them back quickly. I've saved a lot of detours," said Liu Yanju, a herder from the Chahan Emu Gacha, with a smile.
Today, in the Twin Well Ecological Migration Demonstration Zone, various intelligent breeding devices are gradually becoming widespread. Livestock farming is transitioning from traditional methods to digital smart farming. Herders can simply open their phones and tap the screen to control watering and check animal locations, making livestock care more convenient and precise, while boosting overall industry efficiency. "Looking ahead, we will continue to deepen the development of the smart pastoral industry, expand the coverage of intelligent breeding equipment, improve the supporting service system for animal husbandry, broaden income channels for farmers and herders, and promote the quality improvement and transformation of the local livestock sector. This will fully support the revitalization of rural industries," said Wang Haiyan, deputy director of the Demonstration Zone's Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Forestry Bureau.
