General Motors announced on Tuesday that it will begin assembling the Chevrolet Groove and Aveo models in Mexico for sale in the local market. This initiative is part of the company's previously disclosed $1 billion investment plan for Mexico and was announced during an event attended by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The local assembly will commence in 2027 at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe plant, targeting sales within Mexico. The company aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 80,000 vehicles by 2030.

The Aveo is one of the best-selling models in Mexico and represents the highest sales volume for General Motors in the country. In 2025, the automaker sold over 60,000 units of the Aveo in Mexico, with sales expected to reach a new record this year.

The Ramos Arizpe facility also produces electric vehicles for General Motors. Earlier this year, the company reduced its workforce at the plant by 1,900 employees, citing weak demand in the U.S. market.

Last year, General Motors stated that it would relocate the production of the gasoline-powered Chevrolet Blazer from the Ramos plant to a manufacturing facility in the United States.
