Samsung Unveils First Triple-Fold Smartphone, Beating Foldable iPhone to Market by Months

Samsung has launched its first triple-fold smartphone, showcasing engineering prowess in the foldable device segment despite the category's limited mainstream adoption.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features a rare dual-hinge design that unfolds into a tablet-sized display. Samsung will debut the device in South Korea on December 12, priced at 3.59 million won (~$2,450). While U.S. pricing remains unannounced, the phone will also launch in mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE.

Samsung unveiled the device at a Seoul event on Tuesday, months ahead of Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone release. Reports suggest Apple's product, slated for fall next year, will adopt a book-style fold akin to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 launched in July.

In folded mode, the TriFold’s outer screen matches conventional smartphone dimensions. Unfolded, its 10-inch display offers a tablet-like experience—larger than the Fold 7’s screen. Tablet mode allows each panel to run separate apps simultaneously, equivalent to three standalone 6.5-inch portrait phones side by side.

Samsung’s DeX software, optimized for this hardware, enables a desktop-like interface directly on the inner screen—unlike other Samsung phones requiring external monitors. In DeX mode, the TriFold supports up to four workspaces with five concurrent apps each.

To address durability concerns, Samsung claims enhanced hinge, aluminum frame, and display technology for longevity. A one-time 50% screen repair discount is also offered.

At just 3.9mm (0.15 inches) at its thinnest, the TriFold packs a 5,600mAh battery—Samsung’s largest in a foldable—supporting 17 hours of continuous video playback when fully unfolded. However, standard usage battery life wasn’t disclosed in specs provided to Bloomberg.
