United States Steel is channeling roughly 900 million euros into its Kosice plant in Slovakia, with plans to build a state-of-the-art electric arc furnace alongside an air separation unit on the existing site.

This substantial investment is expected to receive financial backing from the Slovak government, which has pledged up to 350 million euros in subsidies to support the green steelmaking transition.

The new electric arc furnace is designed with an annual production capacity of approximately 1.6 million tonnes, positioning the facility as a key player in the region's steel output. Operations at the new furnace are slated to kick off by 2030.
