September 2025 New Energy Vehicle Sales Rankings: XIAOMI Outperforms Seres Group, NIO Surpasses Li Auto

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, nationwide wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 1.5 million units in September 2025, representing a robust 22% year-over-year increase. Cumulative wholesale sales from January to September totaled 10.446 million units, marking a 32% year-over-year growth.

BYD maintained its leading position with September new energy vehicle sales of 393,060 units, up 17.6% year-over-year, outpacing second-place Geely by approximately 230,000 units. BYD's total sales from January to September reached 3,218,862 units.

Tesla ranked fifth with September sales of 90,812 units and cumulative sales of 606,364 units from January to September. Notably, Tesla was the only company among the top 14 automakers to experience a year-over-year sales decline, reflecting the intense competitive pressure the company faces in the Chinese mainland market.

Leapmotor quietly secured sixth place with impressive September sales of 66,657 units, surging 128.8% year-over-year. The company's January-to-September total reached 395,516 units.

XIAOMI achieved September sales of 41,948 units, ranking tenth on the list. Remarkably, XIAOMI's vehicle sales exceeded both XPeng and Seres Group. The three companies posted closely competitive figures, with XPeng at 41,581 units and Seres Group at 41,271 units.

In terms of cumulative January-to-September sales, XIAOMI recorded 313,196 units, compared to XPeng's 277,728 units and Seres Group's 257,734 units.

Additionally, NIO slightly outperformed Li Auto in September sales, with NIO achieving 34,749 units versus Li Auto's 33,951 units. Li Auto experienced a 13.1% year-over-year decline compared to the same period last year. However, Li Auto still maintains a significant lead over NIO in cumulative January-to-September sales.
