Movement Alert|CHINAHONGQIAO Falls 3.28% in Regular Trading, Aluminum Sector Broadly Weak as H2 Outlook Dims

09/02

On September 2, CHINAHONGQIAO fell 3.28% in regular trading, trading at 22.44 HKD/share, with turnover of HKD 153 million. The decline came as the broader aluminum sector weakened, with the stock giving back gains made in the prior session.

The pullback follows a report from BOCI projecting that CHINAHONGQIAO's second-half net profit will decline approximately 11% sequentially, as Middle East supply disruptions that had previously supported aluminum prices begin to ease. BOCI expects the Shanghai Changjiang spot aluminum average price to fall roughly 5% in H2 compared to H1. The bank also noted that one-off fair value gains of RMB 953 million recorded in H1 are unlikely to recur, adding further headwinds to near-term earnings. Within the aluminum sector, CHALCO fell 3.23%, CHUANGXIN IND fell 1.5%, and NANSHAN AL INTL fell 1.09%.

Despite the near-term caution, multiple brokerages including BOCI, Citi, Deutsche Bank, and Guosheng Securities maintain buy ratings on the stock, with target prices ranging from HKD 33 to HKD 48, citing strong H1 results with net profit up 39.2% year-on-year to RMB 17.21 billion, attractive dividend yields of 9.6%-10.6%, and ongoing share buybacks totaling approximately HKD 5.29 billion in H1.
