DiDi Reports 33% Surge in Cross-City Rides During May Day Holiday

According to data from DiDi Global Inc., cross-city ride-hailing orders during this year's May Day holiday increased by 33% compared to ordinary days. Travel-related services such as car rentals, EV charging, and refueling also saw significant growth. The holiday travel pattern showed a more balanced structure, with medium and long-distance cross-city trips rising more noticeably, while local travel maintained steady growth.

Data indicated that the average distance for cross-city rides during the holiday reached 612 kilometers, up from last year. Orders with destinations 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers away from users' home cities increased by 21% year-on-year, while those beyond 3,000 kilometers rose by 34%.

Cultural and tourism-related travel demand continued to grow. Ride orders to museums increased by 70% compared to ordinary days, while trips to grotto and temple attractions rose by 62% year-on-year. Travel demand linked to concerts and sports events also saw notable growth, with ride orders around these venues increasing by 88% and 185%, respectively, compared to typical days.

In terms of supplementary travel services, DiDi's refueling demand rose by 46% during the holiday compared to ordinary days, while charging demand grew by 40% compared to last year. Car rental orders increased by 51% year-on-year, with cross-city rentals accounting for 65% of the total. The average rental period extended from 3 days last year to 6 days, and orders lasting over 7 days doubled compared to the same period last year.

For cross-border travel, ride-hailing orders by mainland tourists in Hong Kong increased by more than 50% compared to ordinary days. Meanwhile, ride orders by inbound users grew by 67% year-on-year. Transportation hubs such as airports and train stations also saw a 35% rise in ride demand.

To handle the passenger peak, DiDi enhanced service support at 319 airports and train stations across 165 cities, deploying staff at some locations to guide passengers. Data showed that waiting times decreased year-on-year at nearly 100 major transportation hubs. For example, the average waiting time at Dali Station was reduced by 5 minutes, while passenger flow efficiency at Nanchang East Station improved by 27%.
