Lumentum Holdings Inc. saw its stock surge more than 13% during Wednesday's trading session, ultimately closing up 7.89% to break the $700 mark, finishing at $700.81. The leading optical communications company had previously disclosed its long-term financial growth model at the OFC 2026 global optical communications conference, which included a $2 billion quarterly revenue run rate. Wall Street institutions are increasingly bullish on the stock's prospects, expecting it to continue its strong 2025 bull market trajectory. Lumentum's stock soared 340% throughout 2025, firmly establishing it as a top-performing AI computing theme stock globally, and has continued its impressive run with a 90% gain year-to-date.

The mentioned $2 billion quarterly revenue run rate indicates the company's operational pace is at or targeting a robust expansion level of approximately $2 billion in revenue per quarter, implying an annualized revenue expectation of around $8 billion. This outlook for both quarterly and annual performance is significantly stronger than current results. In the quarter ending December 27, 2025, the company's revenue reached $665.5 million, a sharp increase of 65.5% year-over-year, hitting the high end of its guidance. For the next fiscal quarter, Lumentum's management provided guidance far exceeding market expectations, projecting revenue between $780 million and $830 million. The midpoint of this range suggests potential year-over-year growth exceeding 85% and sequential growth of approximately 22%, indicating sustained strong growth momentum.

Within the next 9 to 12 months, the company anticipates achieving a quarterly revenue run rate of $1.25 billion. Following that, in another 9 to 12 months, Lumentum's management expects to achieve a $2 billion quarterly revenue run rate.

Lumentum is fully capitalizing on the AI infrastructure boom. Regardless of whether Nvidia's GPU or Google's TPU technological paths dominate, the company is positioned to continue its growth trajectory. Following Lumentum's recent earnings, financial giant Morgan Stanley noted that the most exciting aspect of Lumentum's growth cycle is its substantial progress in the emerging Co-Packaged Optics market. Based on strong fundamental expectations, Morgan Stanley significantly raised its future profit forecasts for Lumentum.

Lumentum is a manufacturer of key optical communication components and also supplies some optical module products and subsystems. Its core technological strength lies in its ability to uniquely build fundamental light source and high-speed optical device platforms. These components are extensively integrated into various optical modules and communication systems within large AI data centers. Lumentum's strength, and what attracts Wall Street investment, lies in areas like Indium Phosphide lasers, EML, ultra-high-power lasers, external laser sources, and Optical Circuit Switches.

Lumentum expects its EML production capacity to increase by over 50% by the end of fiscal 2026 compared to 2025. The company also forecasts that the compound annual growth rate for InP demand from AI data centers will reach 85% by 2030. Furthermore, Lumentum anticipates the CAGR for OCS shipments will exceed 150% between 2025 and 2028.

At the OFC conference, Lumentum highlighted four key growth drivers. The company also discussed its capital allocation plans related to a strategic investment. In an investor note on Wednesday, an analyst team led by Stifel's Ruben Roy stated that with the announcement of the $2 billion long-term quarterly revenue run rate at OFC, the company's stock outlook is more optimistic than ever. Stifel maintained its "Buy" rating on the stock with a 12-month price target of $800. Another Wall Street firm, Rosenblatt, set an even higher price target of $900 following the release of Lumentum's long-term guidance at OFC 2026.

The primary reason for Lumentum's exceptional stock performance since 2025 lies in its ability to benefit from both the Google TPU AI computing chain and the Nvidia-led AI GPU computing chain. Future AI computing clusters, whether based on Nvidia GPUs or Google TPUs, will rely heavily on the optical and silicon photonics high-speed interconnect capabilities that Lumentum provides. A core commonality in these AI superclusters is the need for extremely high bandwidth, very low latency, and high energy efficiency for intra-data-center interconnects. Traditional copper cabling or electronic switching solutions become inadequate at scales of thousands or tens of thousands of chips due to exploding power consumption and heat dissipation. Optical interconnect technologies can replace electrical signals with light signals, significantly improving bandwidth density and energy efficiency in large-scale AI training/inference networks while reducing latency and power consumption.

For example, Nvidia's silicon photonics network switches integrate laser and photonics technology to enhance power efficiency and network capacity, and Lumentum's high-performance lasers and optical components are indispensable parts of these switches. Google has already integrated OCS clusters into its Jupiter/AI data center network architecture to support its TPU AI systems and large-scale training/inference systems. Lumentum's OCS products are specifically designed for large-scale cloud computing and AI/ML data center networks.

Looking ahead, particularly within Nvidia's AI GPU compute clusters, Lumentum is poised to be a primary beneficiary due to secured capital, production capacity, and R&D alignment, especially in core optical interconnect areas. Lumentum is highly likely to become a key supplier in the upcoming AI optical interconnect wave, particularly crucial for the Nvidia GPU ecosystem.

From a technical perspective for AI data centers, the industry trend highlighted at OFC 2026 is very clear: the bottleneck for hyperscale AI data centers is shifting from single-chip computing power to "cluster-level interconnect bandwidth, energy consumption, and scalability." Official information indicates that this year's OFC is expected to attract a record 16,000 attendees and over 700 exhibitors, with a core focus on silicon photonics, lasers, optical modules, CPO, and optical switching. The latest product releases from three optical giants—Broadcom, Coherent, and Lumentum—are highly aligned, pointing towards several key industry developments.
