Corning's stock surged 5.02% during intraday trading on Tuesday, extending a multi-session rally driven by significant index-related inflows and positive developments in its AI-focused optical connectivity business.

The movement follows Corning's reclassification within the FTSE Russell index system, where the company was removed from several value stock benchmarks and added to key growth indices including the Russell 3000 Growth Index, Russell 1000 Growth Index, and Russell Top 200 Growth Index. This style switch has triggered substantial passive fund inflows as portfolio managers reposition to reflect Corning's transformation from a cyclical industrial stock to a high-growth technology enabler for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Concurrently, Corning recently launched its next-generation GlassBridge optical interconnect component, designed specifically for co-packaged optics (CPO) and glass-substrate semiconductor packaging architectures. The product uses waveguides within glass to directly connect photonic integrated circuits with optical fibers, solving size mismatch issues with target coupling loss below 2dB. Analysts note that Corning is positioning itself as a critical supplier in the AI infrastructure buildout, with the company having secured multi-billion-dollar long-term supply agreements with hyperscale cloud operators including Meta, NVIDIA, and Amazon.
