US Pharmaceutical Lobbying Group Plans to Launch Website to Help Patients Access Cheaper Medications

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the U.S. pharmaceutical industry's lobbying organization, announced on Monday that it will launch a new website in January next year designed to help patients purchase prescription drugs directly from manufacturers, bypassing pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and other intermediaries.

The website, called AmericasMedicines, will allow pharmaceutical companies to list medications available for direct purchase and provide patients with lower-priced access and fewer barriers to obtaining their medications.

The biopharmaceutical industry is attempting to streamline Americans' access to medications and reduce out-of-pocket costs following increasing pressure from the Trump administration.

Trump has consistently urged pharmaceutical companies to align U.S. drug prices with those paid by other countries and signed an executive order in May requiring pharmaceutical manufacturers to offer Americans the same prices available overseas.
