Market Overview
Hong Kong equities opened higher, with the Hang Seng Index up 1.20% at 25,515.74, while the China Enterprises Index added 1.15% to 8,481.28. The Hang Seng Tech Index outperformed, rising 1.46% to 4,533.82 and moving back above the psychologically important 4,500 mark as technology heavyweights advanced.
Early gains were underpinned by strength in artificial-intelligence plays, semiconductor names and e-commerce majors. Autos and select resources shares also found buyers, whereas pockets of consumer staples and shipping names lagged, leaving breadth constructive but mixed beneath the surface.

Opening Summary
The Hang Seng Index kicked off the session with a 1.20% advance, hovering near 25,500 as investors welcomed improved risk appetite after upbeat global cues. The HSCEI tracked the move, rising 1.15%, while the Hang Seng Tech Index outperformed with a 1.46% surge, reclaiming the 4,500 threshold that traders view as a key sentiment barometer.
Heavy-weight technology counters underpinned the momentum. Lenovo led blue-chip gains with a 3.21% pop, helped by optimism over PC demand recovery. JD.com, Baidu and Tencent all added more than 2%, while electric-vehicle makers Li Auto and Xpeng extended recent rebounds. The collective strength in platform, hardware and EV names propelled the tech gauge higher.
Among individual standouts, lidar maker Hesai jumped nearly 7% to top the gainers list, trailed by AI chip proxy CSOP SK Hynix 2x and auto parts firm Brilliance China. On the flip side, biotech name Genscript slipped almost 4%, and newly listed Shein-W eased 2.4% in early profit-taking.
Thematically, AI, semiconductor and smart-auto segments commanded early attention, while shipping, consumer staples and renewable energy names lagged. No major IPO priced at the open, but traders remain alert to pipeline offerings as September’s listing window gathers pace.
