The China (Shaanxi)-Mozambique Investment Promotion Conference was recently held in Xi'an. During the event, representatives from Shaanxi-based enterprises and the Mozambican government presented their respective initiatives. Several agreements were signed between Mozambique’s Ministry of Economy and organizations including the Shaanxi Belt and Road Medicine and Health Industry Association, China Railway 20th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., West China Cement Ltd., and Sinohydro Bureau 3 Co., Ltd.
Cao Jianshun, CEO of West China Cement Ltd., stated, "In 2020, we completed and began operating a cement production line in Mozambique. In recent years, we have collaborated closely on projects in sectors such as building materials, logistics, and shipping. At this conference, we signed three new projects with Mozambique, involving an investment of nearly 2 billion yuan, which is expected to create over a thousand local jobs."
According to its official website, West China Cement currently operates production bases and ongoing projects in several African countries, including Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, Angola, the Republic of Congo, and Kenya, as well as in Uzbekistan in Central Asia. The company employs over 6,000 staff, including both Chinese and local workers. Its annual production capacity includes more than 12 million tons of cement, 30 million square meters of gypsum board, and 20 million tons of international logistics and transportation capacity.
West China Cement has previously emphasized its commitment to leveraging Africa’s rapid development opportunities to accelerate its international expansion strategy, aiming to establish itself as a leading player in Africa’s cement and building materials industry. Additionally, the company plans to further explore emerging markets in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and beyond, striving to become a global leader in an integrated industrial chain encompassing cement, ready-mix concrete, new materials, logistics, trade, and prefabricated construction.
