At a routine press conference held on August 27, China's Ministry of National Defense addressed questions regarding Taiwan's proposed defense budget for fiscal year 2027, which has exceeded NT$1 trillion for the first time in history. Spokesperson Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang responded to inquiries from reporters on the matter.

Zhang emphasized that the pursuit of peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation represents the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan. He stated that the Lai Ching-te administration, driven by narrow partisan interests, is acting against this prevailing trend by eagerly courting external forces and recklessly squandering public resources on military expansion. This approach severely undermines the well-being of people in Taiwan and will ultimately drain the region's resources, leading to inevitable defeat and ruin.
