Preorders for the iPhone Duo have apparently kicked off with a bang.
Customers were able to preorder the iPhone Duo on Friday, although those eager to get their hands on the Duo won’t get delivery until the end of January. That time frame, spelled out on Apple’s website, signals that demand for the new smartphone is strong.
Apple investors are likely breathing a sigh of relief. The stock was up 1% on Friday to $345.20.
The Duo was announced last month alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Preorders of those phones started on Sept. 12, and they officially became available on Sept. 18. Some analysts have reported that wait times—how long a customer has to wait for a product—for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup have been slowing. That means that customers are getting the new iPhones quicker than some shareholders may like to see, since higher demand tends to lead to longer wait times.
“Considering that Apple raised prices across the lineup this year, raising the risk of demand elasticity, declining wait times against a stable supply backdrop are an increasing concern in our view,” UBS analyst David Vogt wrote on Thursday. He rates Apple as Neutral with a $296 price target.
Barron’s has reached out to Apple for comment.
Counterpoint Research also reported this week that consumers are holding on to their devices for longer as prices rise amid a constrained memory backdrop. Any disruption to phone sales is a risk for Apple stock as the iPhone makes up a majority of the company’s revenue.
There has been hope that demand for the iPhone 18 Pro wasn’t booming because consumers were just waiting to purchase the Duo. That would be a positive for Apple, as the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 compared with the Pro at $1,199. Friday’s initial preorder response seems to indicate that may have been the case.
