The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released the operational situation of the software industry for the January-August 2026 period.

During the first eight months, China's software and information technology services industry (hereinafter referred to as the "software industry") maintained sound operational momentum, with software business revenue growing steadily, total profits expanding at a stable pace, and software business exports continuing to grow rapidly.

In the first eight months, China's software business revenue reached 10,282.0 billion yuan, up 8.8% year-on-year. Total profits of the software industry stood at 1,183.7 billion yuan, up 1.3% year-on-year. Software business exports amounted to 45.99 billion USD, up 12.5% year-on-year.

Overall Operational Situation

In the first eight months, China's software business revenue reached 10,282.0 billion yuan, up 8.8% year-on-year. Total profits of the software industry stood at 1,183.7 billion yuan, up 1.3% year-on-year. Software business exports amounted to 45.99 billion USD, up 12.5% year-on-year.

Operational Situation by Segment

Software product revenue grew steadily. In the first eight months, software product revenue increased 6.0% year-on-year, accounting for 21.5% of total industry revenue. Among this, basic software product revenue grew 9.8% year-on-year; industrial software product revenue grew 8.3% year-on-year.

Information technology services revenue continued to grow. In the first eight months, information technology services revenue increased 9.6% year-on-year, accounting for 68.7% of total industry revenue. Among this, cloud computing and big data services together achieved revenue growth of 11.1% year-on-year, accounting for 17.3% of information technology services revenue; integrated circuit design revenue grew 21.6% year-on-year; e-commerce platform technical services revenue grew 5.3% year-on-year.

Information security revenue and embedded system software revenue grew steadily. In the first eight months, information security products and services revenue increased 5.7% year-on-year. Embedded system software revenue grew 10.4% year-on-year.

Operational Situation by Region

In the first eight months, software business revenue in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions grew 8.7%, 14.4%, 8.8%, and 4.2% year-on-year, respectively. The eastern region accounted for 83.9% of national software business revenue. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region's software business revenue grew 7.4% year-on-year, while the Yangtze River Delta region's software business revenue grew 10.1% year-on-year, with these two regions accounting for 26.4% and 30.0% of national software business revenue, respectively. Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Shandong ranked as the top five nationwide in software business revenue, growing 7.2%, 9.2%, 9.6%, 10.5%, and 7.1% year-on-year, respectively.
