Qingdao Port's Qianwan North Terminal Expansion Project Enters Main Construction Phase with First Pile Completion

On April 10, the first cast-in-place pile was successfully installed for the Phase I expansion and renovation project of the North Terminal in Qianwan Port Area of Shandong Port's Qingdao Port. This milestone marks the official transition of the project into the main construction phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent large-scale piling work and creating favorable conditions for accelerated project progress. Located in the northern operational zone of Qianwan Port Area, this project is a key initiative for Qingdao Port to advance port transformation and upgrading while enhancing comprehensive service capabilities.

The project involves converting the original 72-74# general cargo berths into one 150,000-ton multipurpose terminal. Upon completion, the terminal will feature a quay line approximately 534 meters long with a 59-meter-wide operational area at the waterfront. Supporting facilities including operational yards, roads, and complementary works such as basin dredging, power supply, communications, water supply, drainage, and firefighting systems will be constructed simultaneously. The designed annual throughput capacity exceeds 10 million tons, accommodating diverse cargo types including containers, pulp, and oversized equipment.

The terminal structure adopts a high-pile cap design with bored cast-in-place piles as the foundation. By repairing and reinforcing existing caisson structures while constructing new high-pile cap structural systems, the project achieves integrated connectivity between old and new structures. Along the 534-meter quay line, six shore container cranes will be deployed (three newly purchased and three repurposed existing units) with a 35-meter gauge and maximum single-lift capacity of 70 tons, meeting multipurpose and high-efficiency operational requirements.

Since project commencement, the construction team has maintained high-standard organization and advancement, coordinating permit acquisition, construction planning, resource allocation, and safety/quality management while continuously improving on-site精细化 management. Addressing complex marine construction conditions and variable geological circumstances, the team has optimized construction methodologies and strengthened site control to ensure smooth workflow transitions and orderly progress.

Upon completion, the project will significantly enhance Qianwan Port Area's multipurpose handling capabilities, better accommodate vessel size increases and cargo diversification trends, continuously strengthen the port's core competitiveness, and provide substantial support for high-quality regional economic development.
