Embraer SA announced on Wednesday that it has reached an agreement with low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines for the confirmed purchase of 50 E195-E2 aircraft, with options for an additional 50 units. This marks the first U.S. order for Embraer SA's E195-E2 aircraft.
The announcement was made in Washington, coinciding with an important meeting of aerospace industry leaders. Currently, as the world's third-largest aircraft manufacturer, Embraer SA is lobbying the Trump administration to eliminate the 10% tariffs imposed on its products, while emphasizing U.S. airlines' dependence on its regional aircraft.
Last week, Embraer SA indicated that this order announcement would represent a "milestone" for its business in the U.S. market. Excluding the purchase options, the order has a catalog price value of $4.4 billion.
U.S. customers purchase 45% of Embraer SA's commercial aircraft and 70% of its business jets, with these aircraft relying heavily on U.S.-manufactured components.
Avelo Airlines CEO Andrew Levy stated that the E195-E2 aircraft would complement the company's existing Boeing 737-800 fleet — while the Boeing 737-800 has significantly higher passenger capacity, the E195-E2 will help Avelo Airlines expand its operations.
"This aircraft is the optimal choice for us," Levy said. "It provides us with a stable and reliable aircraft supply channel."
