Peru Declares Emergency in Five Regions Amid Cooking Gas Shortage

Peru has declared a 30-day state of emergency in five regions—Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna—according to a government resolution document, as heavy rains have triggered a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Earlier reports indicated that the Fujimori administration was set to announce an emergency in Arequipa specifically due to the LPG supply crunch. The resolution states that once the emergency is in effect, the energy and mining regulatory body Osinergmin may implement "urgent" measures to ensure the continued operation of energy-related services.

This move underscores the severity of the disruption, with authorities prioritizing the stabilization of fuel distribution to mitigate the impact on households and businesses across the affected areas.
