Recently, Apple officially launched the new M5 MacBook Pro. Although there are no significant visual changes, it may create the impression that Apple has merely upgraded the M5 chip. However, the latest tests reveal a substantial increase in its SSD speed, with read and write speeds reaching up to 211% higher compared to the M4 MacBook Pro.

According to comparative tests by Max Tech, the M5 and M4 MacBook Pros share the same internal layout, single-fan, and single-heat pipe cooling solutions, both utilizing two NAND flash memory chips to maximize SSD performance. Nonetheless, during Blackmagic speed tests, the M5 MacBook Pro demonstrated tremendous advantages:

Sequential Read: M5 MacBook Pro: 6323MB/s (up by 211.3%) M4 MacBook Pro: 2031MB/s

Sequential Write: M5 MacBook Pro: 6068MB/s (up by 84.31%) M4 MacBook Pro: 3293MB/s

The data shows that the M5 MacBook Pro surpasses the 6000MB/s threshold in both sequential read and write speed tests, with a remarkable 211.3% increase in sequential read speed compared to the M4 version. Although Apple has not disclosed detailed specifications, the speed test results suggest that Apple might have upgraded the SSD controller in the new model, which is a key factor in achieving such significant performance leaps. A faster SSD means that the M5 MacBook Pro will open applications and process files more quickly, providing a smoother daily usage experience. Furthermore, Max Tech noted that while the M5 chip can reach temperatures of up to 99 degrees Celsius under high-intensity workloads, it runs cooler in everyday use compared to the M4 MacBook Pro.
