Analysts suggest the company's emphasis on sovereign AI is resonating with corporate clients.

Shares of Palantir Technologies Inc. surged in early trading Tuesday after the company delivered another strong quarterly earnings report, convincing some analysts that it is gaining an edge in the software sector's AI competition. The data analytics firm reported second-quarter results that surpassed expectations in terms of accelerating revenue growth and robust demand, which Deutsche Bank analyst Brad Zelnick said "further reinforces our view that Palantir is operating several steps ahead of other software companies in translating AI into customer value."

Zelnick wrote in a note to clients that while many application software providers are still figuring out how to integrate AI into their products, "Palantir increasingly looks like a time traveler, having already arrived at the AI future that others are still dreaming of." He highlighted that Palantir's focus on sovereign AI, where enterprises own and control their data, AI models, and other infrastructure, is a strategy that resonates with customers seeking to extract value from their AI investments. Zelnick noted the company's AIP Evolve product, which uses AI agents to test and swap AI models to optimize compute and token costs while reducing latency, is another tool helping Palantir stand out among corporate clients. He wrote that Palantir's "Control Your Alpha" strategy "extends Palantir's differentiation into AI governance, an important emerging area where traditional methods may prove insufficient." As a result, Zelnick said Palantir's stock "deserves to trade at a premium," upgrading his rating from hold to buy.

Palantir shares surged 25.5% in early trading, which would mark the biggest single-day gain since a record 30.8% jump on February 6, 2024. Benchmark analyst Mark Li said Palantir's growth and profitability make it "one of the biggest beneficiaries of enterprise AI adoption" among software makers. However, Li noted in a report that the key debate among investors is shifting from Palantir's growth potential to whether its success can extend beyond its U.S. operations. CFO David Glazer previously told media that the company's U.S. business revenue grew 115% year-over-year to $1.57 billion in the second quarter, accounting for 81% of total operations. Palantir's second-quarter U.S. commercial business rose 149% to $764 million, and the company attributed this segment's strength to its decision to raise its 2026 full-year revenue guidance by nearly $500 million to a range of $8.15 billion to $8.158 billion. Li believes that Palantir's strength in the commercial enterprise sector and growing interest from the U.S. government and military have already been priced into the market. He said the stock's current valuation assumes the company will maintain growth above 80% to 90% in the near term, leaving little room for error in the event of a slowdown in U.S. demand, a failed major deal, or its ability to expand internationally. Consequently, Li maintained his hold rating on the stock. Despite Tuesday's sharp rally, the stock is still down 11.3% for 2026, while the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF is down 4.3% and the S&P 500 has gained 12.4%.
