SK Hynix and SanDisk Corp. have announced the release of the industry's first standard specifications for high-bandwidth flash (HBF), a next-generation storage technology. This milestone was achieved approximately six months after the two companies formed an alliance. Google and Tenstorrent have also joined the HBF consortium.
HBF represents a new memory tier positioned between high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and solid-state drives (SSDs). The technology combines near-HBM-level high-speed data transfer capabilities with the substantially increased storage capacity enabled by NAND flash memory technology.
