Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology: To Introduce Top-Tier Esports Event IPs and Host High-Level Professional Tournaments by 2026

On January 22, at the "Press Conference on Promoting the Upgrade, Quality Improvement, and Development of High-Tech Industries," a relevant official from the Information Technology and Software Services Department of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology stated that in 2025, the revenue of Beijing's information software industry exceeded 3.7 trillion yuan, accounting for one-quarter of the national total, with a growth rate higher than the national average; the added value reached 1.2 trillion yuan, constituting 23.4% of the city's GDP, and it has become the main engine driving the high-quality development of the capital.

In 2026, the Bureau will focus its efforts on "strengthening platform leadership, deepening AI empowerment, expanding strategic layouts, and leading ecosystem development."

Specifically, in terms of expanding strategic layouts and cultivating new drivers for industrial development, efforts will concentrate on making breakthroughs in the game and esports industry, supporting enterprises in tackling core game engine technologies, creating high-quality domestic AAA game titles, assisting Beijing's premium games in going global, and providing integrated overseas expansion solutions.

The plan aims to attract 1-2 globally leading game companies to establish a presence, introduce top-tier esports event IPs, host high-level professional tournaments, and foster a favorable ecosystem for the esports industry.

Simultaneously, efforts will be made to stimulate the potential of digital consumption, accelerate the deep integration of ultra-high-definition audiovisual technology with cultural tourism and other industries, expand diverse application scenarios such as smart retail and reverse customization, support the batch replication of metaverse business models like the Qianmen Beijing Fun digital complex and Shougang Park's So-Real, expedite the large-scale implementation of metaverse commercial complexes, and cultivate 2-3 leading enterprises with AIGC digital content revenues exceeding 10 billion yuan.
