Yen Strengthens, Ultra-Long Japanese Bond Yields Fall as Finance Minister Katayama Speaks

As Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama delivered remarks, yields on the nation's 20-year and 40-year government bonds fell, while the Japanese yen strengthened.

The 20-year yield dropped by 8.5 basis points to 3.78%; the 40-year yield declined by 7 basis points to 3.965%; Japan's 10-year government bond yield decreased by 6 basis points to 2.815%.

The yen appreciated by 0.3% against the US dollar, reaching 161.98.

Katayama stated that Japan will ensure market trust by reducing the debt-to-GDP ratio and expressed her support for the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) to invest in financial assets.
