American Airlines Flight Attendants Ratify New Five-Year Contract

American Airlines Group (AAL) said Thursday that flight attendants represented by the Association of Professional Flight Attendants ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the company.

The contract will deliver improvements in compensation, benefits and quality-of-life provisions, the airline said.

In a separate statement, the union said the five-year contract will add $4.2 billion to the existing Flight Attendant contract.

"This contract marks a significant milestone for our Flight Attendants, providing immediate wage increases of up to 20.5%, along with significant retroactive pay to address time spent negotiating," said APFA National President Julie Hedrick.

"Among the many improvements, the contract includes a new sit rig for compensation for long sits between flights, and American Airlines Flight Attendants become the first unionized workgroup to lock in pay for boarding."

The contract also includes out-year wage increases, addresses many quality-of-life issues, and improves scheduling, rescheduling, and reserve work rules, the union said. Wage increases take effect on Oct. 1.
