Lunnon Metals (ASX: LM8) has confirmed that a new gold zone has been identified at the Lady Herial prospect within its Kambalda gold and nickel project in Western Australia.

Multiple near-surface, high-grade gold intercepts on parallel shoots have been delivered from diamond and in-fill reverse circulation work, with the best result to date being 23 metres at 16.61 grams per tonne gold.

Upon receipt of the remaining assays, geological modelling will be completed and open-pit optimisations undertaken to determine whether an initial mineral resource can be reported.

Priority prospect

Lady Herial continues to present as a priority prospect for Lunnon given the shallow depths at which the gold mineralisation starts and the widths of the mineralisation recorded in the current program.

Managing director Edmund Ainscough said it had the potential to be the company’s second discovery since drilling of the Baker nickel shoot in 2022.

“Just when we think we have found the limits on one structure at Lady Herial, the next set of results identifies new mineralised zones we didn’t know about in otherwise poorly-tested areas,” he said.

“Some of these zones will need follow-up drilling at depth and along strike to understand how large the ultimate opportunity is on the multiple parallel structures we are finding.”

Mr Ainscough said the prospect is expected to help Lunnon meet its strategic objective of defining shallow, high-grade mineralisation capable of being rapidly drilled, modelled, optimised and commercialised.

First discovery

Baker Shoot was Lunnon’s first discovery within the Kambalda gold and nickel project.

Lunnon reported an indicated estimate in June 2022 comprising 295,000t at 2.75% nickel for 8,100 nickel tonnes and an inferred estimate of 273,000t at 2.82% nickel for 7,700 nickel tonnes.

This increased Lunnon’s global resource estimate across the project to 2.2Mt at 2.9% nickel for 64,300 contained nickel tonnes.
