TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) Jakarta will hold a simulation of voting and vote counting for the regional elections this morning, Thursday, October 24, 2024.
"In order to improve understanding and measure the effectiveness of PPSs' performance and the efficiency of the voting and vote counting time," quoted from the invitation letter signed by the Chair of the Data and Information Division of the Jakarta KPU, Fahmi Zikrillah on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The Chair of the Socialization, Voter Education, and Community Participation Division of the Jakarta KPU, Astri Megatari, stated that the scheduled simulation at 07:00 AM local time today will depict the situation on the voting day.
"It will be exactly the same as the voting day implementation," said Astri when met by the media at the Jakarta KPU building on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
Later, members of the Jakarta Voting Organizer Group (KPPS) will demonstrate the voting activities including how to receive and open the ballot box, and count the ballots.
The simulation is designed to match the operational hours of the polling station (TPS) from 07:00 until the voting process lasts until 13:00 local time in the afternoon. Afterwards, they will also proceed with the vote counting process.
The KPU will also review the estimation of the time needed by the KPPS for vote counting. "We want to see how it is in real terms," said Astri.
Astri stated that this technical simulation can provide insight into obstacles or problems that may arise at the polling stations (TPS). "For example, whether the TPS is accessible for persons with disabilities and so on," she explained.
The simulation also aims to understand how the KPPS handle the ballot boxes and other election logistics when facing special situations such as rain.
"So, when there are conditions like that, how will they handle the ballot boxes," said Astri.
Astri explained that the preparation agenda for the voting day is a directive from the Indonesian KPU, instructing its working units to conduct a simulation of voting and vote counting.
"At the national level, the Indonesian KPU has already conducted its simulation," she added. The areas referred to are Depok, West Java; Maros, South Sulawesi; and Jakarta, which will take place this morning at the Gelanggang Remaja Johar Baru, Central Jakarta.
