TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that online ojek or online motorcycle taxis are not the target for fuel subsidy.
“Motorcycle taxis are used for business, why must businesses be subsidized?” he said when met at his residence after casting his vote in South Jakarta on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
According to Bahlil, not all online ojek drivers use their own motorcycles to work. Some business owners rent motorcycles to drivers, he said.
Bahlil said only yellow plate vehicles, or public transportation, are subject to fuel subsidies. This policy aims to prevent an increase in public transportation fares so users are not burdened by additional costs.
The minister also said he has discovered the appropriate scheme for fuel subsidy, combining subsidized goods with direct cash assistance (BLT).
"We will hopefully announce it together with President Prabowo,” he said on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, adding that the subsidy is likely to use a blending scheme.
Bahlil said this scheme will increase Indonesian people’s purchasing power and ensure a precise target. The Golkar Party chair, however, stopped short of revealing when President Prabowo will officially announce the scheme.
"I’ll report to the Finance Minister, and we will likely proceed with the BLT first for cushioning," said Bahlil.
