Hedge-fund billionaire Ken Griffin bought the world's most expensive dinosaur fossil, a Stegosaurus known as "Apex," for a record $44.6 million during a Sotheby's auction in July.
Griffin snapped up the specimen in an intense 15-minute auction watched by at least 100 people at Sotheby's Upper East Side auction house. Following the historic bidding battle, Griffin said he intended to lend the fossil to a U.S. institution.
Thursday, the 150-million-year-old skeleton was unveiled at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
Griffin has given more than $300 million to museums since 2018, including a $40 million gift to the American Museum of Natural History two years ago. Read more here:
