Tivan (ASX:TVN) secured a major project status from the Australian government for the Speewah fluorite project in Western Australia, according to a Monday filing with the Australian bourse.

The designation, granted by the Minister for Industry and Science, acknowledged the significance of the project under the national government's critical minerals strategy and national battery strategy, the filing said.

As part of the designation, Speewah's regulatory approvals will now be directly facilitated by the Major Projects Facilitation Agency, the filing added.

The company's shares surged 22% in recent Monday trade and earlier hit their highest since September 2022.
