Honda Motor's (HMC) reported merger talks with Nissan Motor is a welcome idea to Nissan's top shareholder Renault, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.
Renault isn't itself willing to inject cash into Japanese carmaker Nissan, Bloomberg reported. But while the French automaker -- the company's biggest shareholder -- is open in principle to strategic alternatives for Nissan, such as a merger, it is still expected to closely evaluate any offers, the report added.
Renault did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
The talks between Nissan and Honda are still in the early stages, Bloomberg said. Neither Honda nor Nissan responded to MT Newswires' request for comment.
