Natural-gas futures are tumbling following fresh forecasts that suggest January won't be quite as cold as traders believed late last month when they bid the heating fuel to its highest prices in nearly two years.

Adding to the sell off: The Energy Information Administration said that less gas was withdrawn from domestic storage facilities last week than traders had been expecting, meaning that there's more of the heating and power-generation fuel available to burn during cold spells.
