1541 GMT - Shares of European spirit makers are falling Friday after the U.S. Surgeon General said alcoholic beverages should carry warnings to raise awareness that the drinks can cause cancer. Dr. Vivek Murthy said alcohol was a well-established, preventable cause of cancer responsible for about 100,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 cancer deaths annually in the U.S. Shares of Campari in Milan and French liquor maker Remy Cointreau in Paris are down more than 4.5%. Meanwhile, shares of Absolut vodka maker Pernod Ricard are down more than 3%. Beer makers Carlsberg and Heineken shed more than 1%. (mauro.orru@wsj.com)
