Airbnb (ABNB) is facing a lawsuit filed by the US government for alleged housing discrimination after a host rejected a rental request from a mother with three children, Reuters reported Friday.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday with the San Francisco federal court, according to the report. In the lawsuit, the Justice Department claimed that the rejection is a violation of the Fair Housing Act, Reuters said.

According to Reuters, the host allegedly told the mother that the apartment "is not suitable for kids" and Airbnb later told the mother that "it would be best" if she found another rental as the host is not required to accept children.

Airbnb lets hosts designate their rentals as unsuitable for children aged two years to 12 years old, or infants under two years old, Reuters added.

Airbnb and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
