Canadian National Railway (CNI) won approval from the US Surface Transportation Board for the acquisition of Iowa Northern Railway.

Iowa Northern Railway's 175 route miles will merge with Canadian National's 20,000-mile network as early as Feb. 13.

The combination is expected to bolster single-line service and improve connectivity for grain, fertilizer, renewable fuel and industrial markets across North America, Canadian National said Tuesday in a statement.
