Telephone and Data Systems (TDS) said Monday it has named non-executive Chair Walter Carlson as president and chief executive, effective Feb. 1.

Walter Carlson will succeed LeRoy Carlson, Jr., who will assume the newly-created role of vice chair, the telecommunications service provider said.

LeRoy Carlson will continue to serve as United States Cellular's (USM) board chair, the company said.
