Tariffs Threaten 1-800-Flowers As Domestic Production Fails to Flourish -- Market Talk

1425 ET - 1-800-Flowers founder James McCann says he got a jolt to his cardiac system when tariffs were threatened against Colombia, which provides about half or more of the fresh flowers grown and sold in the U.S., as he discusses quarterly results on a call with analysts. While the struggling flower and food company says it was relieved by the resolution with Colombia, it says it has struggled to grow domestic production, as many U.S. providers pivoted to cannabis cultivation. About $40 million to $45 million of the company's $1 billion in cost of goods sold is exposed to the China market, McCann says. "But tariffs are something we watch." (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
