China's box office sales jumped 18% year on year to 9.48 billion yuan during the Lunar New Year holiday period, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing data from ticketing website Maoyan.

Box office sales in the same period a year ago was 8.02 billion yuan, the media outlet said.

Imax China also beat its previous record in the previous year, as sales climbed 57% in dollar terms to $53 million, the report said.
