MDA Space signed a contract to become Globalstar's prime contractor for its satellite constellation, with the agreement now worth a total of 1.1 billion Canadian dollars ($769.6 million).

The Canadian space-technology company said Monday that it will manufacture more than 50 MDA Aurora software-defined digital satellites for Globalstar's low-Earth-orbit constellation.

MDA has been working with a mystery client on a C$350 million authorization-to-proceed contract that analysts have widely believed to be Globalstar and technology company Apple.

In November, Globalstar signed a deal with Apple to deliver expanded services over a new mobile satellite-services network, including a new satellite constellation, expanded ground infrastructure, and increased global MMS licensing.

The definitive contract between MDA Space and Globalstar is a follow-on to the initial authorization-to-proceed contract that MDA announced in 2023 with an undisclosed customer.

MDA said the deal will add about C$750 million of contract value to the company's backlog in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, an addition to the C$350 million that was previously added.
