Feb 18 - Nvidia (NVDA, Financial) is reportedly in talks with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to commercialize SOCAMM, a new memory module designed for AI-driven personal supercomputers. Industry sources confirm prototype exchanges and performance tests, with mass production likely by year-end.
In this effort, OCAMM integrates LPDDR5X DRAM with its higher efficiency and compact, upgradeable design. And was able to improve bottlenecks found in AI computing with its 694 I/O ports outpacing LPCAMM's 644 ports. The SOCAMM was created by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who is a strong proponent of democratizing AI, and he envisions the technology enabling a new iteration of AI PCs, including Nvidia's Digits' model.
This is how Nvidia will challenge JEDEC's industry-wide technology standardization by exerting more influence over memory technologies. And memory giants and their suppliers, such as Simmtech and TLB are likely to come under the strategy's spotlight as they become participants in SOCAMM's development.
