Market Chatter: Alphabet Vendor Hitachi Accused of Blocking Wage Talks, Firing Worker

Alphabet (GOOG) vendor Hitachi allegedly prohibited a group of Google artificial intelligence contract workers from discussing wages and fired one employee for initiating pay-related conversations, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing a union's federal complaint.

The Alphabet Workers Union filed the US National Labor Relations Board complaint Tuesday against Hitachi's subsidiary, GlobalLogic, which manages 1,800 workers handling AI tasks for Google, alleging the company banned wage discussions and fired employee Ricardo Levario for raising pay concerns.

The workers are employed by Hitachi, not Alphabet, which is accountable for its conditions, a Google spokesperson told Bloomberg, adding that Google carefully selects suppliers and monitors compliance with its code of conduct.

Both Google and GlobalLogic didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
