By Mia MacGregor

Feb 27 - (The Insurer) - Florida-based startup Mangrove Property Insurance has appointed former Universal North America executive Eduardo Miranda as senior vice president of risk, underwriting and analytics.

His appointment was effective February 24.

Miranda joins Mangrove after nearly three decades at Universal North America, where he most recently served as an executive aide to the president.

He began his tenure at the company in 1997 as a loss control inspector and held various roles, including AVP of underwriting and reinsurance and vice president of risk management.

“I’m eager to collaborate with my new team to drive innovation and bring meaningful solutions to Florida’s continuously evolving insurance market,” Miranda wrote in a post on LinkedIn.

He also expressed gratitude to his Universal colleagues for their support, mentorship and friendship over the years.

Mangrove, which launched last month, offers property and casualty insurance solutions tailored to the Florida market.

The company is led by longtime RenaissanceRe general counsel and senior executive Steve Weinstein, who secured approval from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation to establish the admitted homeowners' carrier.

Mangrove became the 10th insurer to enter Florida’s property and casualty market since legislative reforms were introduced in 2023, adding more than $297 million in policyholder surplus.
