TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 7th Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), responded to establishing the Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Investment Management Agency. Jokowi stated that state-owned enterprise (SOE) assets management could be more productive and beneficial if consolidated under the institution currently led by Rosan Perkasa Roeslani.

"From what I see, the intention to establish Danantara is very good," said Jokowi when met by reporters in Solo, Central Java, Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025.

Jokowi and the 6th President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), attended the launch of Danantara at the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta, on Monday, February 24, 2025. Several politicians from the Indonesia Advance Coalition and officials in the presidential circle mentioned that President Prabowo Subianto asked Jokowi as a Danantara advisor.

The same source said that Jokowi had advised Prabowo regarding Danantara, especially regarding the separation of authority between the Ministry of SOEs and Danantara. After Danantara was established, Jokowi asked Prabowo not to overlap with the authority of the SOE ministry.

During his presidency, Jokowi desired to make SOEs a super holding. Jokowi mentioned that several countries had successfully managed investments with large asset amounts. He cited Singapore's success with Temasek.

"Abu Dhabi has Investment, Singapore has Temasek, and Malaysia has Khasanah. I think if the existing assets can be consolidated and be more productive, it would be more beneficial for the people," said Jokowi.

Jokowi hopes that SOE management will be much better in Danantara. Because the management of SOEs will be handed over to professionals with extensive experience in the field.

On the other hand, Jokowi admitted that Danantara plans to ask former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to join the supervisory board. However, according to Jokowi, the plan is not final. "There's no decision yet, as far as I know. Please ask the CEO, not me," said the former Jakarta Governor.
