American Express (AXP) cardholders can now link their cards to the Alipay digital wallet for payments at merchants across China, the companies said Tuesday.

American Express, which operates in China through its Express Co. joint venture, is the first foreign payments network licensed to clear Renminbi transactions in the Chinese mainland, according to the joint statement.
