Ontario Premier Doug Ford Skeptical About 30-Day Auto Tariff Reprieve -- WSJ

The leader of Ontario, the province that is home to Canada's automotive industry, said he is skeptical about the motives behind President Trump's one-month reprieve to the auto sector.

"That always concerns me when someone says, 'Hey give us 30 days, as we ramp up to start moving south of the border.' That's unacceptable," said Doug Ford, leader of Canada's most populous province.

He said Canada won't reduce tariffs unless Trump agrees to remove all duties on Canadian products. "We will not budge. Zero tariffs, and that's it," said Ford.

Ford has said he will slap a 25% export tax on electricity sent from Ontario to 1.5 million homes in Minnesota, Michigan and New York in retaliation for U.S. tariffs, and is prepared to limit exports of high-grade nickel to U.S. manufacturers.
