Daktronics has appointed Brad Wiemann as interim chief executive officer after Reece Kurtenbach stepped down from the lead role and as chairman.

The sign company, which manufactures electronic scoreboards, display systems and large-screen video displays, said Wednesday it plans to use the services of an executive search firm to help identify a permanent CEO.

Until then, the company has appointed Wiemann to role. He has been with Daktronics since 1993, serving in a number of roles, including in manufacturing, engineering and product development.

In his current role, he oversees the company's Commercial and High Schools & Parks and Recreation business units.

Kurtenbach will remain involved with the business in an advisory role, Daktronics said.

Additionally, Daktronics has appointed Howard Atkins to the role of acting chief financial officer and chief transformation officer, effective immediately.

Atkins is a current member of the board, and former CFO of Wells Fargo. The company said he will hold the role while it searches for a permanent CFO.
