Coca-Cola has voluntarily recalled more than 10,000 cans of beverages due to possible plastic contamination.

The recall, initiated by Coca-Cola manufacturer Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling on March 6, was officially designated a Class II recall by the Food and Drug Administration on March 24, according to an FDA report.

The Class II designation means the product could cause temporary or reversible health effects, or when the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote but not entirely negligible.

The recall affects 864 12-count packs of Coca-Cola Original Taste cans distributed in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Coca-Cola stock was largely flat on Wednesday. Shares have gained 13.7% over the latest 12 months, outperforming the S&P 500's 10.9% gains.
