Boeing (BA) chief executive officer Kelly Ortberg is scheduled to testify before the US Senate Commerce Committee to address the company's recent safety lapses and broader operational issues, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing a prepared testimony and committee statements.

The hearing follows an in-flight emergency involving a 737 MAX 9 in January of last year, during which a panel was lost due to missing bolts, the report said.

Committee Chair Senator Maria Cantwell said the testimony provides Boeing with a chance to outline how it plans to improve safety standards, Reuters reported.

Lawmakers are also expected to question Ortberg about delays in the Air Force One program, trade-related challenges, and a pending criminal case involving past disclosures about the 737 MAX prior to two deadly crashes, the report said.

Boeing did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
